Kitchen cabinets in Los Gatos run from about $20,000 for prefab to $40,000 to $50,000 and up for fully custom, and ASL adds that amount on top of the kitchen construction scope of $45,000 to $75,000 and up, because finished materials are never counted inside the scope price. This guide covers what moves the cabinet price, where cabinets sit in the full budget and how the Town of Los Gatos treats cabinet work.
What Kitchen Cabinets Cost in Los Gatos in 2026
Cabinets are the largest finished material in a Los Gatos kitchen. Prefab cabinetry starts from about $20,000. Fully custom cabinetry runs $40,000 to $50,000 and up. That is a wide gap, and the rest of this guide explains where it comes from.
Both figures are finished materials. ASL's construction scope covers labor, rough materials, design and project management. The cabinets you select are added on top of it, never folded into it.
For a full kitchen, the construction scope runs $45,000 to $75,000 and up. Add the cabinets and the other finished materials, and you can see the real budget. To see how the team plans and builds the whole room, visit our page on kitchen remodeling in Los Gatos.
This guide treats cabinets as one part of a kitchen remodel. A cabinet price means very little on its own. It only helps once you know what it sits next to.
The range is wide because cabinets vary so much. Two kitchens of the same size can have very different cabinet totals. The difference comes from how the cabinets are made, how many storage features they carry and how much of the room they cover. The sections below take those factors one at a time.
Where Cabinets Sit in the Full Kitchen Budget
A kitchen budget has two parts. The first is ASL's construction scope of $45,000 to $75,000 and up. The second is the finished materials you choose, which run roughly $33,000 to $110,000 for a kitchen. Together they land at $85,000 to $160,000 all in.
Cabinetry is the largest line inside those finished materials. Countertops installed run $3,000 to $15,000. The appliance package runs $5,000 to $30,000. Sink, faucet and plumbing fixtures run $1,200 to $3,500. Tile, flooring, lighting and hardware run $4,000 to $12,000.
Because cabinets are so large a line, a change there moves the all in total more than most other single choices. Moving from prefab to custom can shift the budget by tens of thousands of dollars. Choosing a different faucet cannot.
The full budget for the whole room is in our Los Gatos kitchen remodel cost guide. This post stays on cabinets, so the two guides do not repeat each other.
Prefab or Custom Cabinets
The price sheet gives two points, and the difference between them comes from how the cabinets are made. Prefab cabinets come in standard sizes. Custom cabinets are built to the measurements of your room.
That difference shows up in four places.
Sizing. Custom cabinets can fill a wall exactly. Prefab cabinets come in set widths, so a run of them can leave small gaps that need filler pieces.
Door style. Custom work gives you more control over the door and drawer front. Prefab lines offer a smaller set of styles.

Storage inserts. Pull-outs, deeper drawers and organizers are easier to fit when the cabinet is built for them.
Finish. Custom cabinets can be finished to match a color or wood you already chose for the room.
Semi-custom lines fall between the two. The number depends on the selections you make, so it is best priced from your own plan.
Neither choice is wrong. Prefab leaves more of the budget for the other lines in the kitchen, and custom puts more of it into the cabinets. Choose by how you use the room, not by a number alone.
Some questions help you decide. Do you cook often, and do you need deep storage near the range? Does the room have an odd wall length or a corner that standard boxes do not fit? Do you plan to stay in the house for many years? Your answers point toward prefab or custom better than a price list can.
When you compare quotes, ask each one to list the cabinet type, the door style, the storage features and the hardware. A quote that lists only a total gives you nothing to compare.
What Moves the Cabinet Price
Several decisions move the cabinet price. Each one depends on your kitchen and your plan.
Kitchen size. More wall and more base run means more cabinets. A larger kitchen needs more of everything.
Custom sizing. Cabinets built to your measurements cost more than standard boxes. That is one reason the custom range sits so far above prefab.
Storage add-ins. Soft-close hardware, deeper drawers and pull-outs each add to the total. List the ones you want before you ask for a price.
Countertop choice. Countertops are priced on their own line, at $3,000 to $15,000 installed. Quartz, granite and porcelain run lower, and marble runs higher. The cabinets and the counters are planned together, so a change to one affects the other.
Layout changes. Moving the sink or the range changes the cabinet plan. It also changes the plumbing, wiring or gas work behind the wall, and that work has its own cost.
A real example shows how these choices stack up. The Vista Del Mar kitchen and home remodel in Los Gatos lists custom cabinetry with upgraded storage and soft-close features. It also has a breakfast nook. The project took 12 weeks and is listed at $150,000 and up for the whole project, not for the cabinets alone.
Old Orchard, another Los Gatos project, used custom maple prefinished cabinets with soft-close hardware and quartz slab counters. It was a whole-home remodel, so its cabinet cost is only one part of a much larger job.
Both projects point to the same lesson. Cabinets are chosen together with counters, storage and layout. Looking at the cabinet price alone hides the decisions that shape it.
Do Cabinets Need a Permit in Los Gatos
The Town of Los Gatos lists cabinets and counter tops among finish work that needs no building permit on its own. That is good news for a simple swap of finishes.
A kitchen rarely stops at cabinets, though. If the project moves plumbing, wiring or gas, the kitchen enters the Town's permit path. For kitchens that do not touch the structure, the Town has a Kitchen and Bathroom Non-Structural Express Check path.

If plumbing fixtures increase or move, the Town requires a certificate from the West Valley Sanitation District. The plan check fee comes after the pre-application. A permit may go to the owner or to a licensed contractor.
Permit fees are the Town's charge, not ASL's. The price sheet range for a kitchen is $1,500 to $5,000. ASL plans for approval to take 2 to 6 weeks, and ASL handles the whole permitting process. Confirm the current requirements with the Town before you start, because they can change.
Cabinets can also be part of a project that reaches well beyond the kitchen. If that is your plan, read our guide to Los Gatos whole-home remodel cost for the wider budget.
How Long a Kitchen With New Cabinets Takes
A full kitchen remodel takes about 6 weeks or more, and often around 2 months. The cabinets are one piece of that schedule, along with demolition, plumbing, wiring, counters and finishes.
Permit approval runs on its own clock. ASL plans for 2 to 6 weeks for a kitchen, and construction follows the approval.
Custom cabinets are made to order. That means a lead time that depends on the cabinet maker. This guide gives no lead time, so ask for one in writing before demolition starts.
I cannot promise dates. The Town sets its own review schedule, and the cabinet maker sets its own. What I can tell you is that these steps happen in order, and a delay in one pushes the next.
During construction the kitchen is a job site. Plan early for where you will cook and where the dishes will go.

How to Choose Cabinets Before Construction
Bring photos, measurements and a list of what you want to your first meeting. Settle the layout and the cabinet selections before demolition. A change to a cabinet order after work has started can cost more and can delay the job. Choices made early keep the plans, the order and the schedule in step.
Make these decisions first.
Layout. Decide where the sink, range and refrigerator go. The cabinet plan follows from that.
Door style and finish. Pick them before the order, not after.
Storage inserts. List every pull-out, organizer and drawer you want.
Countertop. Choose it with the cabinets, since the two are measured together.
Contingency. Set aside 10 to 15 percent of your budget for conditions nobody can see yet. Old walls hide surprises, and a reserve keeps the job moving.
Lender. ASL does not provide direct financing, but we can point you to reputable home-improvement lenders. Talk to a lender before you sign a scope.
ASL also offers design services to settle the layout and the selections before building begins.
