Kitchen Remodeling · San Mateo

Project Story

Nevada Avenue in San Mateo sits near the Hillsdale neighborhood, home to classic 1940s and 1950s bungalows. These charming homes need modern updates. Outdated electrical systems and cramped kitchens plague many properties here. Single-car garages limit storage for today's families. ASL Remodeling transforms these vintage gems into contemporary spaces. We specialize in design-build solutions for San Mateo's beloved mid-century homes.

Scope:

This San Mateo kitchen remodeling project was all about transformation, both structurally and stylistically. We removed a major load-bearing wall to create an open-concept layout that connects the kitchen with the main living and dining spaces.

Project Highlights

Opening Up the Floor Plan

The team removed a load-bearing wall to create a fully open concept layout. This structural change connected the kitchen directly to the living and dining areas. The project took place on Nevada Ave, San Mateo, and ran eight weeks from start to finish. New engineered wood flooring ties the spaces together with warm, natural tones. The result is a layout built for both everyday living and easy entertaining.

Custom Cabinetry and Porcelain Surfaces

Custom shaker cabinets line the kitchen with clean, consistent proportions. Matte black pulls add contrast without overwhelming the soft white palette. The team fabricated porcelain slab countertops and a full-height matching backsplash cut precisely to fit every wall and corner. This San Mateo kitchen renovation uses porcelain for its durability, low maintenance, and refined visual appeal. Every surface was selected to work together as a cohesive design system.

Island Design and Layered Lighting

The kitchen island serves as the centerpiece of this San Mateo kitchen remodel project. It includes a built-in wine fridge and a drawer microwave for smart, efficient storage. Geometric pendant lights hang above the island and complement the recessed cans installed throughout the ceiling. This layered lighting approach supports both task work and ambient atmosphere. Every fixture and finish was chosen to complement the overall design with purpose and consistency.

Result

The Nevada Ave, San Mateo, kitchen remodel transformed the space into a seamless hub for daily living. Custom cabinetry maximizes storage while maintaining clean sightlines throughout. Durable quartz countertops resist stains and require minimal upkeep. New appliances work together effortlessly for meal prep and cooking. The team installed coordinated finishes that unify every element. Improved lighting brightens the workspace and enhances safety. The homeowners now enjoy a fully functional kitchen that handles everyday demands with ease.
